A Groom's Guide to Bespoke

Jens

Your wedding suit will be in every photo you keep for the rest of your life. This guide covers when to start, which fabrics survive a Thai ceremony, suit versus tuxedo, dressing the groomsmen, and what to budget.

When to start: the timeline

The single most common mistake grooms make is starting too late. The comfortable schedule:

  • 6 - 8 weeks before: first consultation, fabric selection, measurements. This leaves room for a full fitting schedule and, for full-canvas suits, the handwork they deserve.

  • 2 - 4 weeks before: fittings. Bodies change in the run-up to a wedding (gym plans have consequences), so a fitting reasonably close to the day matters.

  • 1 week before: final fitting and delivery, with buffer for last tweaks.

Getting married in Thailand but living abroad? Two approaches work well: measurements and fabric selection on an earlier trip with delivery on the wedding trip, or a single stay of at least 5 - 7 days. We keep patterns on file, so future orders can be made remotely.

Fabrics that survive a Thai wedding

Heat is the defining constraint for ceremonies in Thailand, especially outdoors:

  • Tropical and high-twist wool (under about 260 g/m²): the best all-rounder. Formal look, real breathability; fresco weaves are our most recommended choice for outdoor ceremonies.

  • Wool-silk blends: a quiet sheen that photographs beautifully in evening light. Ideal for dinner receptions.

  • Linen and wool-linen: perfect for beach weddings; embrace the relaxed texture.

  • Marrying abroad or in strong air conditioning? Heavier worsteds and flannels come into play; see our suit fabric guide for weights by climate.

Suit or tuxedo?

  • A suit (navy, mid-grey, or something braver) fits daytime ceremonies, garden and beach weddings, and grooms who want to wear it again.

  • A tuxedo belongs to evening receptions and black-tie dress codes: peak lapel or shawl collar, silk facings, the works. See our tuxedo tailoring for details.

  • A three-piece suit splits the difference elegantly: the waistcoat keeps you sharp when the jacket comes off in the heat, which in Thailand it will.

Dressing the groomsmen

Coordinated groomsmen photograph better than identical ones. The practical approach: the groom in a distinct fabric or colour, groomsmen in a matching cloth one step simpler. Our technical-fabric suits (from 11,500 THB) are the popular choice for groomsmen parties: sharp, consistent and affordable in a group.

What to budget

  • Groomsmen suits (technical fabrics): from 11,500 THB each (3-piece from 14,500 THB)
  • Groom's suit in premium Italian or English wool: from 17,500 THB
  • Wool-silk, mohair blends and evening cloth: from 19,550 THB
  • Hand-stitched full-canvas in Zegna or Dormeuil: from 32,500 THB

Full details are on our pricing page, and the complete cost breakdown is in our Bangkok suit price guide.
